It's the Orthodox Easter tonight...

Христос Возскресе!

Happy Easter!

To everyone!

Regardless of creed, race, sex, political beliefs and preferred camera systems. ;)

...

Be Happy.

:)

yesterday I was watching the tv news, and they were talking about some kind of celebrations they have in Greece for the easter. First thing I thought was that the tv guys aired an old new but then I remembered what I read here.

Yep. We were knocking eggs yesterday.

Nope. Not gonna explain it. It's good opportunity to work on your goggle-fu. :)

Saw some crazy video showing "friendly" rocket fire between two churches attempting to ring each other's bell tower. Looked more like shock and awe.

Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania [if I'm not mistaken], most of the other Balkan states, Russia, Armenia [the first country in history to convert to Christianity], Georgia, etc. are Orthodox Christians.

Most obvious difference is: We make the cross sign from right to left. And Catholics don't have icons, but we do.

And a lot of other differences: in the calendar, etc.

Orthodox Christianity is supposed to be closer to the original "version" [if there is such a thing] of the dogma.

It was one thing for a long time, but in the XI-th century, the Great Schizm occured and Christianity was divided into Catholicism and Orthodox Churches.

And later Protestants also appeared, and so on.

Religious fun.

that's it. more a fireworks display it was like a medieval war scene with fire arrows flying from one church to the other. I liked it.

Oh, I went from diner to diner to diner yesterday morning. Most were closed.

Well, happy Orthodox Easter. (I am half Greek)

I just happened to be making a hamburger, and picked up the paper and there was a whole page on Russian Easter and how apart from politics, our daily lives are the same.

I had to think hard about how many Russian movies I've ever seen and I think maybe a handful at best, if that. I'd like to see more but I assumed the Government is/was a hinderence there.

Your not going to believe this. I sat down to watch a bit of TV. Going through the channels I stumble across a scene of a crane carrying a giant concrete head.
I stayed there and watched and started thinking, hey, isn't that Stalin?
..........Yep. The actors start taliking Russian. On French Canadian TV channel. Whoohoo. Better get back now before I miss any more.
Haha.

You sure you didn't just happen across the opening sequence of Zardoz...?

Oh, wait...that was Karl Marx's head...

No, it was Stalin. As the movie progressed it struck me as French Film made in Russia. Looked like a late 60's or 70's in B&W. Didn't catch the name of it and it's not in the local listings. Just sais Varied Programming.

I can remember scenes of one I saw many years ago with a female factory worker. They are far and few between for sure.

I do have a question though. I don't really know much about that part of the world. In Bulgaria, can you film something there and enter it into a DVXfest?

//I'm watching your vimeo short now, so maybe that answers the question, I'm not sure.
//...re: the short: well I didn't see that coming.
