Handling Noise with K-Zepp & Boom Pole

I just purchased a Sennheiser MKH-416 and a K-Tek K-Zepp Zeppelin and K-Tek Boom Pole. I am running an XLR cable to either my Panasonic HMC-150 or Zoom H4n.

After plugging it all up I am surprised at how much handling noise this system picks up - anywhere in the chain including the XLR cable plugged into the bottom of the Boom pole - if you touch lightly you hear it very loudly.

Prior posts have mentioned getting softer bands for a different K-Tek Shock Mount but not for this one. Any Suggestions on how to deal with this or workarounds to reduce this handling noise. Thanks

Hi Andy,
There will always be some handling noise from the boom. The trick is to not move your hands during a take. When you have to move the mic, use your wrists and arms and upper body. There is a bit of technique involved in swinging a boom quietly. That being said, there are ways of isolating the microphone better. I like cloth covered cables from the mic to the boom. Smaller diameter cables transmit less noise. I use the rycote connbox. It's excellent for noise dampening.
