What would you recommend for a wireless hand held mic and receiver that plays well with HVX 200 or HPX 3000 for under $600?

Thank you ggrantly, I forward you suggestions to my supervisor. because of our budget I think we would have to go with option one.

You might want to solicit for opinions on the mic. Remember you are locked into that mic once the deal is done.

You might spec out the senn plug on and receiver seperately, skipping the lav mic and lav transmitter. Mo betta!

The Sennheiser 835 capsule, in my opinion, is roughly equivalent to the Shure SM58 as a vocal mic.

That said, you'll notice a serious lack of SM58's used in ENG situations. :)

Is there no way to buy just the "butt plug" and a portable receiver? Without the body pack and lav? I'll have to check at work tomorrow...

No it's not like the SM58 at all really.

The SM58 has a tailored response to get the vocal above a backing band - the Sennheiser with that characteristic is the 935 capsule - *not* the 835 (in a wired mic. the 840 gives you similar at a cheaper price).

The 835 head is a bit more of a general purpose cardioid - great for vocals, but good for speech as well. But it's not really an interview mic. and I would use the MD42 or 46 with an SKP for that use.

I hope this helps.

Yes you can - you buy the SKP and EK as separate items.

But, I would say, not really worth doing.

In the UK the SKP 100 G3 + EK 100 G3 = £633

The ew 100 ENG G3 (which includes the SK 100 Ge and ME 2 microphone as well) = £694

So you are only saving £61 - so for that small amount extra it's well worth getting the ENG kit. If you go the cheap route and want the pocket transmitter later it will then cost you about £308 extra.

OK - these are UK prices, but the percentage difference should be the same in other countries.

Also - bear in mind that this is based on retail price - on the street the kits tend to get discounted and the individual items do not - so the ENG kit is likely to actually be *cheaper*.

Interesting info on the 835 capsule, John, thanks for that. :)

Here in the US, an EK100G3 MAP's at $429.95, which is what Full Compass sells it for: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/370185.html The SKP100G3 MAP's at $299.95, which again is the Full Compass Price: http://www.fullcompass.com/product/370192.html. So that's $729.90 for the set, as opposed to $799.95 for the EW100ENG-G3 kit. I'd say $70 is a good price to add the body pack and lav. :)

I wonder why they don't do a kit with just the SKP... I've known news guys who never use anything else, surprised me the first time they plugged a "butt plug" directly in my mult box...
