I am about to build this camera support:

Has anyone built something like this?
The question is that I need a support setup that may hold a small CF audio recorder and a small mixer, just by the camera. So I am planning to add a plate on the right of the camera to hold them. No other supports I have seen allow that without completely destabilizing all.
My concern is with the final weight of it all, but the cross on the base (second photo) should allow laying it on a table.
Any suggestions or comments?
