I'm going to be shooting a presentaion tape in 24p. A lot of it will be hand held. Does anyone have any insights of things i should do or avoid? I know i shouldn't pan to quickly, anything else?
It does, in comparison to 60i, but not to 30P. The shutter speed affects the light in progressive modes, and because with the DVX you're most likely shooting at 1/50 in 24p, and 1/60 in 30p, you'll need LESS light in 24p.
Grab a five pound or ten pound weight (plate) from the sports shop and strap/tie/attach it underneath the DVX. Hold the plate as you take your shots. The weight will add the heftiness that will balalance your footage and remove much of the little herky-jerkys that a light camera like the DVX inherently has. Good luck.
That's a great idea. I have a DVRIG XL which seems to work well. It's better than the house made version at Alan Gordon's. But getting it properly weighted with receivers, sungun & battery, headphones, and a wide angle adapter is a bit of a challenge.
I shot a few things in 24p with OIS on. I really didn't notice a difference in quality whatsoever. I don't know if it;s smart or not, maybe someone can elaborate.
You'd not want to use it for it's motion characteristics - ie, if you're panning, it'll try to compensate for the pan, and end up wobbling your footage left and right.
But as far as quality goes there's no difference whatsoever.
