Hallucinating

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
So last Sunday night I was sitting on a restaurant patio on a side street south of Peachtree Avenue in Atlanta, and Mark Wahlberg walks by, headed south. And I'm thinking, okay, that couldn't have actually been Mark Wahlberg; what the hell would he be doing walking down an Atlanta side street at 10 o'clock on a Sunday night? So I order another beer, and about ten minutes later, there's Larry David walking east. And I'm thinking, okay, Mark Wahlberg walking down a side street in Atlanta is unlikely; Larry David walking down the same street ten minutes later means that after three beers I start to hallucinate.

Yesterday at lunch the Set Decorator is all bubbly bouncy excited, going on about I just had to talk with him and tell him how great his stuff is, I always wanted to meet him, you'd all better get down to stage if you want to meet him, he's leaving soon. Who? Yeah, Larry David. He came by for a few days to hang with the Farrellys, who are apparently friends, or something.

The moral of the story: sometimes when you are hallucinating, you are not hallucinating.

Cue Curb Your Enthusiasm music: BAA ba ba, ba BAA ba ba, BABABA baaaa ba ba, ba BA ba ba...

Cool story, Max.

I'm sure folks in OKC were doing double takes last summer when Mila Jovovich was walking down the street as she worked on a film here.

Presumably. Couldn't see 'em, though.

This morning the coordinator was talking about a bunch of middle-aged executive types at some other restaurant here who were all totally schoolboy drooling-at-a-distance at the sight of Sofia Vergara dining at her table. Well, who wouldn't?

this is how you should introduce yourself to larry david:

hi, i'm the art guy. but you can call me mr. vandalay.

Last time I was in Atlanta for DragonCon, I was eating at benihana and saw Ron Glass drinking at the bar, man was he toasted. Then I left to walk back to the Marriot and walked past Barry Boswick and Alan Ruck. It was bizarre. To top it all off, I went to get a bite at the High Velocity bar inside the Marriot and was sitting right next to David Prowse. Did I mention I love the randomness of DragonCon??? A few years before that I literally RAN INTO David Carradine, he wasn't too happy about that.

One year during DragonCon, I was heading down for lunch in the building I worked in. I stepped into the food court, and in front of me was a table of about 20 Imperial Stormtroopers eating Chik-Fil-A.

Three years ago, I stepped off the escalator in the bottom of the Hyatt and there was about 20+ Slave Leia around a model of Jabba the Hutt. I swear I thought I must have died on the escalator. They were very very good looking. :) Of course, my favorite story is the first year I went and the elevator opened at 1am in the morning and, well, let's just say there was a guy dressed all in stormtrooper EXCEPT pants and a girl was with him and they were quite busy. He turns to me, waves his hand and speaks through the mask "This is not the elevator you were looking for". I was about to tell him he was a little short to be a stormtrooper but the elevator closed and I just stood there laughing.

Years ago a high school friend was driving through Pennsylvania (the little state that's *all* speed trap) and of course got pulled over doing whatever he was doing, over the limit. Officer walks up all business and mirrorshades, and as he's leaning in to demand license+registration my friend's passenger leans across the center rest and says "Officer, these aren't the droids you're looking for." My friend just about pukes because he's sure *now* they've pissed the cop off, but after a lonnnnnng moment the officer replies: "These aren't the droids I'm looking for." Passenger says: "He can go about his business," officer responds, "He can go about his business." Passenger says: "Move along!"

Officer says, "Nice try."

David Carradine was a very cool guy. I met with him on several occasions at NAMM, and talked with him at length one afternoon over a hot dog lunch. Had you not ran into him literally, LOL, you would have been impressed by his openness and friendliness.

I was sad to hear of his death.
