To test the editing skills, two to four people shoot footage on DV - no more than 30 - 45 min - then you have a pool of tapes. Then randomly send the tapes back to contestants to edit down to 3-4 min short film.

Just typing outloud - bad idea, good idea, done already?

I could dig it. There would have to be an entry fee. Wouldn't it test editing skills more if everyone got the same footage?

well, i think it sounds fun for fun's sake, but a bad contest idea, as good editing does a have a lot to do with how u shot ur footage.

But sure, u could try it if u wanted

I think it'd be better if someone shot 2-3 minutes of random footage, put it up for download, and people edited that creatively

just an idea ;D

Ok if footage from download, what format?
I could support about 1gig for say three days - so I don't go over bandwidth.

i'd put it in compressed .mov. that seems to be the norm around here. Put it in the contests section and create some rules & guidelines etc. etc. Perhaps other people can throw in some footage to the mix as well

true, but files will be much larger. Believe it or not, some people here are still on dial-up :o

AVI's can be just as compressed as MOV's. You can use the same codecs and the same compression.

This sounds especially cool to me, because I can't compete in the normal contest because my DVX is STILL in the shop. STILL.

I'm on dial-up. >:( By the time I download, edit, and upload, the contest will be over, and all of you will have forgotten about me, ...gott'n married, ...had kids, and I'll die alone.

Ok how about this 320x240 mov no larger then 10mb. PM me and I'll give you address and password. Upload in zip or other commressed format
Should we go on a theme?
