Hacks for Cameramen

Thanks for sharing Jon, really interested in that charging case - great idea.

Also, if you guys read his article maybe you wouldn't be offended by the post's title in which Jon refers to himself as a cameraman:

"I just thought I’d take 10 minutes out to share my top hacks that help me as a freelance cameraman"

I enjoyed the blog post, Jon.

One hack I will add is using a shower cap to cover the front of a camera matte box in order to protect from the elements. If you look around enough you can even find them in camera-black. And they fold up into a very small size. They are handy to be able to pull out and put over the front of the matte box when in between setups or breaking for lunch.

One more tip that you actually show in your pictures but don't mention:

Cover all the spare real estate on your camera (and V-lock batteries) with velcro tape, with the corresponding tape on the back of your wireless receivers, Teradek, etc so you can quickly add or remove them as needed.

Another tip is to get a custom case built/cut - A big, sturdy, wheeled case that will fit your rig fully assembled in it's most commonly used configuration (including shoulder mount, lens, rails, mattebox, etc. That way when you turn up to location, you literally just have to pull the camera out of the box and start shooting. It'll save you so much time on set and in camera prep. Of course you can still break your rig down if you want to for flights, etc, but you no longer have to.

Thanks to Brian's post which derailed this thread, we may never hear from Jon again, who, being a new member, had a total of 3 posts; one to introduce himself and two to provide us with helpful posts.

Jon, please ignore the direction in which this thread has gone. We need more contributors and fewer critics. Thanks for joining DVXuser.

And that's why we can't have nice things.

Look -- as said in the other thread -- DVXUser is NOT the place to advocate for social change, to berate people for their use of terminology, or to otherwise advocate for or against some social issue. I've gone through and nuked all posts that got off on that tangent. You can have the discussion all you want -- just not here. This is not the place for it. Try one of the 130,000,000,000,000,000,000 other websites where that stuff flies.

This place is for discussing the craft of film/videomaking, and the use of the equipment to do so.
