Just wanted to share my good fortune with people who might appreciate it.

I just scored this lens from Ebay for $10.50

70-210mm F1.4 all my other lenses are primes...so i am going to try this out.

That's going to be an F4 (1:4) not 1.4, just so you know...

But, hey, for 10.50 you can't really go wrong... Worth a try anyways :)

hah. ok. Just making sure you knew :)

Sounds like a good deal. One of these days, I might sit down when I have soem extra cash and buy some cheap lenses like this to test out... Maybe find a gem...

Excellent!

I just bought the same lens in a second hand photography store in Antwerp, Belgium for 10 euros! It is in perfect condition. Shows that bargins can be had :)

Jesse ,
I hope you have good luck with the lens, but it is true that lenses like that are widely available very cheap. My local camera shop has boxes of older zoom lenses that are 3.5 - 5.6 that are available for $25 @ or BO. The nikons did get scarfed up quickly though. I would be concerned at whether the possibly smaller size of the rear element impacts the adapters. I have an old Tamron f3.5 35- 135 that vignettes like a tunnel on an adapter.

I've always wondered how the old Nikon 50 - 300 would look on an adapter. Its heavy and has a max f stop of 3.5- 4.5 or so but its supposed to be very sharp. Might be great for exteriors on an SG that can handle the f stop without grain.

I bought a Canon FD 50mm and a Sears 28mm cheaply on E-bay which turned out great. However, I got a 135 2.8 third party lens that was junk, and the aperture didn't work (at least it was stuck on 2.8), so it's kind of hit and miss. The sears 28mm is very sharp, so if you see any sears brand FD lenses I can vouch for their quality. They were made by an anonymous Japanese company and usually go for nothing. The zoom to get for the canon is the 35-105mm 3.5. They usually go for around 50 bucks if you are lucky.

I wish there was a 70-210 f1.4 but I bet the front element would be as big as your head!

Enjoy and let's see some frame grabs once you use it.

The Tokina ATX Pro lenses are very good. I have both an 80-200 2.8 and 28-70 2.8 . The 80-200 is not as good as the Nikon but its pretty damn good, sometimes looking as good as my primes to me. The price is good and I might just be selling 1 or 2 soon as I have gone up to the Nikon's which are pricier.

The general thing I've heard about them is that the optics are very good but they're not built as well as Nikon's. Now in theory we shouldn't be knocking lenses around as much as a still photographer.
