So i currently own a Rode NTG1 I used with my old camera and I now use a zoom H1 with my panasonic GH2. I was going to purchase a zoom h4n so I could use my rode NTG1, but I am thinking that a 250$ mic that plugs into my zoom h1 would be a better option. Any opinions? I need a shotgun mic for a short film, and I may end up using it for interviews as well. Links to mics would be helpful, I looked through my bh Photo video mag but I just see hundreds of mics and have no idea what would sound best.

Check the "stickies" for all kinds of info on microphones and recorders, etc. The H1 would be fine as a recorder, but if you have or get a mike that needs phantom power, you'll need a separate power supply for that, unless you go with a battery-powered mike. Also, as you know, the only input choice on the H1 is 1/8" mini jack, so the microphone will need an adaptor or will have to have an 1/8" mini connector.
