Just got an h4n for my 7d and had been planning to run my shotgun mic into the L XLR channel and my EK100G2 portable receiver lav into the 2nd xlr channel.
I turned phantom power on so I could use the shotgun, and thought all was well. About 25 minutes into the shoot, I started hearing a buzz every few seconds on the G2 lav channel. Pretty soon after the h4n flipped off with the batteries dead.
I've heard the h4n sucks down batteries when providing phantom, but this felt waaaay too shot.
Was the EK100G2 portable receiver freaking out the system by receiving phantom power? I don't see a way to send phantom power to just the channel with my shotgun.....are there any possible workarounds? Do i have to power the shotgun separately?
