H4N Issue

I've had very few complaints about my H4N thus far. Some people bash the onboard mics but personally I find them to work wonderfully in certain situations. The last shoot I had realized that the signal coming through the onboard mics was very noisy, had popping...clearly something is wrong with it (see linked file). I still hear audio coming through the mics but a lot of extra garbage as well. Any audio fed through the recorder is fine. Wondering if anyone else has has their H4N suddenly go bad on them? As far as I know, it never fell and was properly protected.
