H4N Horrid distortion (audio sample)

When recording using the internal microphones only, one channel is ...well listen for yourself - distortion thats right off the scale. If I replace or remove the batteries and allow the capacitors to discharge completely then power back on, many times it works but once or maybe twice then ##!$!!

I was going to have a factory out of warranty repair or if I knew what part (board maybe) to replace, Id see about getting a part and do it myself.

Any advice or suggestions?

Your RIGHT channel is complete noise, while your LEFT channel sounds fine. Definitely something is messed up with either your settings or the actual recorder itself...

UPDATE:

ZOOM North America got back to me. From now on out of warranty products have a flat fee replacement program instead of repair.
A ZOOM H4n could be replaced for $145.00 (with the proper RMA)

That is NOT "distortion". That is gross circuit/component NOISE.
Perhaps we need to put together a tutorial on audio terminology so we can all get back on the same page.

Could be something as simple as the 89-cent electret mic capsule going bad.
Do people really use internal microphones for anything?

Sorry Im not on the same page ;-(

As a video guy, I use internal mics for ambient stuff street noise etc. or if Im by myself being DP and sound guy, I might use it for dialog inside a car or ____.
I might take a direct feed from a mixer in a club but use the zoom and it's bult-ins for room sound to mix in later. The list goes on.

I know its not like plugging my Sennheiser into a Nagra field recorer but it does what I need it to.
