H4N file transfer issues

Can someone please walk me through the steps of setting up file transfer from the h4n to my mac? I have both a mac and a PC but neither computer will recognize the device. When I click through the USB - Storage - connect menu, nothing happens. I recorded some test audio and would really like to listen to it.

Pretty straight-forward, only thing I can think of is you need to make sure the H4N is turned ON prior to connecting with the computer. Other than that, it might be a faulty cable.
