H4N + 2 mics

I know the H4N has been covered here and I read a lot of posts already, but searched and did not this.

Is anyone using an H4n on-board stereo mics, along with a Shotgun and Lav in the 2 ports to be able to extract and work with various sound elements in the final mix?

For production audio, the on-board mics are worthless. A lot of people have gotten the idea that getting "ambience" during the take helps in post, but in all honesty it doesn't at all. Get the boom and lav cleanly and with good levels = post will thank you.

Thanks for the quick response, and straight answer.
What is the best 2 channel field recorder under $500. I have one premium quality Sony wired Lav, but the shotgun is still on list shopping. Will any of the $250 - $400 shotguns work till I get more cash?

Depend on what you are doing, the onboard stereo mic works just fine for me to add ambience when I'm shooting a band so that it won't sound like can music like this clip here http://www.vimeo.com/9534336
Shot with Zoom H4n, audio from a wireless mic taking a feed for the band mixer, and onboard stereo mic.
