h20 + sine wave + sync fps (very cool)

saw this on reddit, thought I'd share as its camera related

quoting an explanation from the author's youtube comments
the uniformity of the waveform being played through the speaker is vibrating the pipe in a uniform way, so the drops exit the pipe uniformly, the frame rate of the camera is synced with the speaker so the drops appear static

Interesting. I'm guessing based on the camera that it's like a 1/60 shutter, matched up to a 60hz sine wave?

yes

the author wrote in the youtube comment thread

The camera (canon 5d mii) has a fixed frame rate of 25fps, so the speaker is playing a tone at 25Hz. Increase the shutter speed on the camera and the drops appear sharp in mid air through the camera.

I used the test oscillator in Logic, sine tone. You may need to adjust to decimal points around 25Hz to get it to stay still, but play around with the pitch to get the drops to move.

Very cool!

I wish he-
a- had sound of the tone, turning it higher and lower and seeing the effect on the water, and
b- ran his hand through the stream of water...
