anyone know how to render H.264 files? do i have to absolutely shoot in HD to render out to H.264? i have quicktime pro. any help pls.

When I downloaded the original Windows beta version of QT 7 Pro, I could render h.264 with no problem. But when I downloaded the updated production versions, I couldn't any longer. I think they bolloxed it up intentionally.

So does that mean Vegas cannot do h.264?

What I've been trying to do is render as a .mov and then go into custom render settings and change it to h.264. This seems like it will work, but it stops at about 5% and tells me there is a codec problem.

This is obviously annoying considering it is pretty aparent that h.264 is the best combination out right now of file size/quality.

This also happens if I do any quicktime video.

Anybody know why this is, because all I have been posting online is .wmv and I don't want to offen the Mac guys... or do I :undecided

I believe you will need QT pro because the freebie QT is really limited waterdown version of QT. QT pro is pretty inexpensive anyways.

So WMV would be better quality than h.264?

Do I need quicktime pro to render h.264 in Vegas?

if you have quicktime pro, you can render your file in vegas as a mov, then open it up and export it as h.264 within quicktime.

Oh OK.

Can you render as .mov if you don't have QT pro?

Would you get a quality increase if you exported a .mov as h.264 or is it just smaller file size, or what?

Yes as a WMV for Window Media Player is really good and free. But for H.264 which is a Apple codec then you will need QT pro which costs a nominal fee of 29.95

WM9 gives you the most bang for the buck, seriously. And any Mac user can view it if they install the WMP software. Most already have done so. It's really only the truly snobby ones who refuse, and I figure it's their loss if they don't want to get with 99% of the rest of the world.
