H.264 question

Hey All,

I have a project shot at 1024x768 PC resolution. Someone suggested that I compress this using H.264, but so far I can't seem to figure out how to do that. I'm using Vegas Pro 8.0.
 
Thanks for the link. It's in interesting read so far, and I'm trying what is suggested but ran into a snag. When I follow the instructions I discovered that the output file will be 1280x720. My source material is 1024x768 (PC 4:3 aspect). It appears that I can't change that to match in the render options. Is H.264 a HD TV ONLY format? Sorry if I sound confused...I am ;)
 
Ah - well I just grabbed one of the batch files and edited to do what I wanted it to do. Worked perfect! Thanks for your help :)
 
BTW, with Vegas Pro 8 you don't need my batch files, as there is the Sony AVC encoder included. You just use the "AVC" format under "Custom" and then you change a few parameters in dialog and you should be good to go. I suggest you use CAVLC instead of CABAC in that dialog too, because quicktime has trouble with CABAC.
