I searched and didn't find discussion about this new documentary.

'Gunner Palace' is the best doc about the US soldiers in Iraq to date. It's better then the recent Frontline doc. It follows a First AD artillery unit that has been deputized to function as military policemen. It takes you on patrol and then shows you the soldiers after hours. You get a look and feel for the soldiers that hasn't been presented before. These soldiers are just like the guys I served with 15 years ago....proud, intelligent, jokesters, and making the best of a tough situation.

I don't know what camera was used to film it, but it was definitely DV. Maybe someone knows?

Best film/doc I've seen in a long time. I know I'm sounding like a paid advert...I'm not and this movie is that good.

i'm surprised there isn't or wasn't more talk about this. i just saw it for the first time and it really hit home for me. my father was in the military for 22 years so i guess i am a little closer. it looks like this came out a WHILE ago kinda bummed i didn't see it earlier. i don't really think i heard much about it coming out.

anyone else see this? what'd u think?
 
There was a small discussion about this in the documentary section (I believe). It was shot using an xl2 and xl1, edited on final cut pro.

I didn't like the film, not because of the content but the editing. Also the narration was pretty bad. It's received criticism for being too bias, but I think it just shows what the soldiers are actually thinking and going through.

I think there is a lot to say about what film accomplished, but it was poorly edited in the end.
