Guide to using fcp4 and dvx together

hey all,

just recently started shooting with the dvx and only yesterday started using the final cut pro 4 to practice on. as you can imagine, a whole lot of questions and confusion. is there a good basic guide that talks about how to use the two together effectively?

i'm still confused about the 24p, 30p, 60i setting and whether or not i need to drop frames once i capture into fcp.

as far as the camera is concerned, i also feel that i'm not maximizing it's potential, and the only thing that i have to go by is the manual, which doesn't explain much about things like knee, the difference between cine-like d and v, etc. i am a bit of a beginner, so any kind of resource that can help me understand what things like knee and gamma curves are would be great

thanks in advance

Here's how I started -- You seem to be in a similar boat.  Though I have much more editing experience than what you bring.  I'm an editor, not a camera guy - so I didn't (don't) really know what all the knees and gammas are IN camera... BUT - read all the posts on Cinematography and ask questions there.  This is the first camera that when I turn it on it tells me what an idiot I am.

As for FCP... you need to decide if you want to use the 24 fps feature.  If you do, use 24PA - you can make dvds with it and DVDSP that look GREAT!  But, you'll be limited with some of the things you really can do well in 24p.  Like - slowmo looks much better when shot with 60i.

I'd try different shorts with different DVX scene settings and see what you like most.

Read read read.
