Grrrrrr...

I'm going mad!
I was syncing footage to an audio piece which was fine and all...and then I made a change to the speed of one of clips early on the in the edit and now everything is out of sync ie. by extending the one clip its pushed all the other clips in front out.

So my question is...on one continuous layer how do you make adjustments without it affecting the rest of the edit?

err...hope this makes sense...i've beeen awake for far too long now and it feels like my eyes have been sucked out by a goat and replaced with hot coals.ß

this site rocks by the way...!

Re: Grrrrrr...

Skankib -- It does make sense.

Couple of ways to do what you want, but here's what I'd do...

First, drag the clip in question to an empty video track. Lock all tracks other than that one... use the lock on the timeline or F5-track# for audio and F4-Track number for Video.

THEN go ahead and change your speed, trim it up, unlock the tracks and drag back to place.

It goes quick once you've got it.

Re: Grrrrrr...

Thanks for that, I've kinda been doing that but thought there was a better way.
Still it works...nice one.

Re: Grrrrrr...

YEah I have had to deal with the same issue for over 3 years now. ARG!
I love FCP, but it's a small dent in the road that becomes a huge pot hole if you like changing speeds often. Is there an easier way than taking the clip you want to slow up to the end of the timeline (thats my preferred way rather than moving it to a new track and locking the other tracks down).

Re: Grrrrrr...

Hey -- Just found a new way... Let me check again... Ok, works, but is goofy a bit.

Here: Dbl click the clip to load into the viewer. Open Motion tab and lower the Time Remap triangle. Set Speed% there. You'll get a warning, but click OK and you should be ok.

Good luck,

Re: Grrrrrr...

The fastest way to do this for me is to just use the Time Remap tool. Select the clip or group of clips that you want to speed up or slow down or both and make it happen. The rest of your timeline will play back normal speed.

Re: Grrrrrr...

If you want consistent speeds, you can also do it "Avid style" and just change the speed of the clip before you edit it into your sequence.

Just load the clip into the source monitor.  Press CMD+J.  Change the speed.   Now the whole source clip speed is changed.  Switching it back to 100% or any other value won't affect clips already edited into the sequence.
