GROUP BUY - AllSteady 7 3-axis gimbal

GROUP BUY IS NOW CLOSED! Thanks to all who purchased.

Hey Guys,

I wanted to let anyone who's interested know that on Tuesday, a group buy will open up for the AllSteady 7 3-axis gimbal. I went to AllSteady earlier this week and checked it out. I had a Red Epic mounted but it will hold up to a 20lb payload with no trouble. I know 20lbs is crazy for a hand held but it is possible if needed. The group buy price will be determined by the number of units sold. The initial price is going to be crazy.

Here is a link to the Group Buy. http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?121879-GROUP-BUY-Allsteady-7-Gimbal-2795

$2795 for the group buy price. If 30 units or more are sold, price drops to $2595!

Package includes:
The gimbal
32bit Dual Sensor (SimpleBGC)
Toolless balancing
Joystick
Monitor Bracket
Tuning Stand
Battery
Charger
Wireless Joystick for Second operator control
Waterproof laser cut case with wheels and handle

I'm interested, but it all depends on price.

If interested just list a +1 here and I'll get back with more info on Tuesday. Here's a pic of the rig!

I´m in the market for a gimbal, that#s why I gave my +1 here.
But what started with one Movi has become quite a crowded market, with units resembling each other, at least on first look.
I saw the video, but maybe you could pitch a bit more why I (or we) should decide on this very gimbal?
Thanks!;)

April 2014 I was on a quest to find the best gimbal to price ratio I could find. I wanted a Movi, but at over 10K on something I "might" use all the time, probably would use some of the time, didn't make sense. I must have played with every gimbal available on the market that was at NAB. Then I played with the gimbals at Cine Gear Expo in May. I really started to narrow down what I liked and what I was looking for. Flash forward to last week. I went to check out the AllSteady 7 at there office here in CA. I wanted to see if this thing was what I remembered and the price was pretty fair for an unknown gimbal. (unknown compared to Movi) I really wanted to come in somewhere under $4000 and have something that just worked. Easy to balance, comfortable to hold, something built solid and clean. Andy at Turbo Ace answered my questions completely and I was sold. I can not say this is the "perfect" gimbal because there is a learning curve to tuning the gimbal. (hooking it to a computer and tweaking the 5 available pre-sets) But for the price it was prior to the group buy, i thought it was a fair price for what they offer. Now I think it's a slam dunk because of the price. Solid build, clean wiring, 5 preset modes, heavy duty motors, comfortable to hold and the "no tool required" easy to balance tops it all off.

On a side note, the folks at turbo ace seem to want to put out a great product not just move a bunch of product. They've worked hard on this and it shows.

This looks really tempting. Unfortunately I haven't done much research on these.
The price looks good compared to others. Can a camcorder such as AG HMC150 be used? It's certainly way below the weight limit.

Is there a situation where a steadicam would have an advantage? Perhaps low shots?

It looks like providing the user is strong enough, that this rig could be used for many moving shots across terrain and stairs, etc.

Would it work ok shooting outside a moving vehicle with the wind against you?

Hey Firehawk,

depending on length of the AG HMC150 and where the center of gravity for it is would determine if it would work. I have an HVX-200 and I can see if it will fit and balance.

As to shooting outside of a car, it would depend on the speed of the car. The motors on the rig are pretty strong but forces against it, like wind in the matte box etc. would make it tough to control. We have used rigs such as this inside cars shooting out windows and open van doors but never hanging in the wind.

steadicams have their place, rigs like the AS7 provide the opportunity to move from low shots to high shots and everything in between without having to adjust a rig to low mode or high mode. It's just as quick as you can raise or lower your arms.

Thank you Dave and Terry,

I really want one of these. The HMC150 dimensions are 6.1 x 6.5 x 15.6" (15.4 x 16.4 x 39.7cm). But it really looks like Allsteady7 (and similar rigs) are intended for box style cameras. No doubt being fit and having a strong back is needed for anything more than simple short usage bursts with these type rigs. :)

If I was holding it while secured on a ski boat, could it help me get smooth footage of skiers, compensating for the bumps that occur riding in boats?

Firehawk,

Still working on the dimensions to see if it will fit.

But yes this is the exact type of gear you would want to shoot from a boat, out a car, from the back of a truck etc. to get a nice smooth shot even going over bumps and dips.

Hey Guys,

Just a quick update on the group buy. I am in negotiations with Andy from Turbo Ace and I am trying to get the price lowered. I'll have more info on Monday but I want to get the best price available for us. Wish me luck!

Sweet. What was the REDuser group buy amount on the DJI Ronin? Still having issues deciding between the two.

I remember the Ronin was a hugely popular group buy.

If they can negotiate with Cinemilled to do a steadicam adapter and confirm that is in the offing, that would help.
