yes it would work indeed. How well would depend on how you etch it. Right now I'm looking at some polyethylene film as a diffuse surface (ie ground glass). I'll let you guys know how that turns out.
As for the etched glass, would you be doing the etching personally or would you be purchasing it?

You meant to say......etch/frost the entire "filter"......right?
