Hi all,
Is it just me, or does it seem like video is being held as a second class citizen in the arts community? Or not considered art at all? I think of video as an art form. But I also believe that the title, like a genre of film, should be granted by the reciever, and not the distributer. Does it mean anything if I call what I make 'art', if the masses deem it otherwise?
The local arts community here in Chico, CA is blossoming, and booming, and exploding, and any other expansive term. It's big. It's popular. It's outcasting video.
Why? Because video is NOT deemed "art", here in the nations "Top 10 Places For Art"
Case in point:
The local Annie Awards, a long established art show, dropped film and video from their roster recently.
What gives? Is the video community (as a whole) too sterile? Too inorganic? Maybe we are falling into a self- fulfilling prophecy? For this forum deemed a very middle-of-the-road website by Cody Brown as being "too artsy".
*going out to take over the media*
