Grip heads not gripping very strong

I just got a couple of C stands and the knuckles just aren't strong enough. These are the older Matthews ones with the small oval T handles. When there's any significant load, they slip (I know about arming out to the right of the lockdown). Even a 2x3 flag armed all the way out slips if I don't tighten it extremely hard. I think part of it may be that the cork friction discs are worn out, does anyone know where I can get new ones? Or is it that the older Matthews knuckles just aren't good?

You can try and replace the slip disk, but I doubt it will help that much. Just spend the 30 bucks and buy the american one, you'll never have any issues.

Or, replace the cork with gasket material from an auto parts store. Works just fine, and also works well for replacing the cork/cushioning masterial on a tripod wedge plate.
