Grey Market

I am broke, and I cannot afford the DVX100 by eany means at a price of $3,400 on EVSONLINE.com. But, i recently found the DVX100 at A&M Photo World and it is about $2,000 (which I can afford). Now, I know what this probably is... gray market.

But, I MUST ASK.... what is the bad thing about gray market? Isn't it the same product wit the same features? What is the big difference that makes everyone stay away from these deals? Please tell me, I don't want to make a mistake

Re: Grey Market

You will not receive a DVX100 for $2000. It won't happen. Go to resellerratings.com and look up the horror stories, it will answer all your questions.

Re: Grey Market

Agree! You will only be poorer by buying this there. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT you don't need it, OK? Take it from a 40 year old!! Save your money and buy it when you can handle it. Really.

... REALLY!!! OK?

Re: Grey Market

Alrighty, I read the reseller ratings, and it is just unbelievable. So, i WILL NOT buy grey market. But, I now have to find a way to raise $3,000. Maybe I can get a loan?

Re: Grey Market

some companies do offer financing, you may be interested going that route, but you end up paying a little more in the end. You could get a low interest credit card and just put it on it.

Re: Grey Market

Its easy..get a job..or do some freelance work with your vx2000..I know you mentioned you did, but you are obviously not charging enough or doing enough work because you are not that far away from the camera, only a grand and a half...just be patient and maybe the *DVX200HD* will come out by the time you have the cash and you can have an HD camera..:)

I did exactly that, I got a job and did some freelancing and in less than a month I had the money and the A camera in my hands. ;D

Don't by any means buy from anyone other than evsonline from rush too. They honestly have one of the best prices on the net and they definately have the best service...there is no doubt in my mind about that. I have purchased equipment for different things from many different vendors and none compare to the service and prices on EVS.

Re: Grey Market

Well, I am actually working a job that pays me $125 to edit a wedding video and put it on DVD with a label. This includes a picture montage, ceremony, reception, and a re-cap at the end. Is this reasonable? Also, the VX2000 is NOT mine, it is my friend's camera. Another thing... I only have $500 for the DVX100 saved up... I need $3,000 more! What do i do??? AAH!

Re: Grey Market

Dude, yeah that is way to cheap man...I charge - and I am 17 - on an upwards of around 800-1600 dollars to edit and film a wedding...To just edit, I would be charging around $500..125 is waaaaayyy cheap as David said..

Re: Grey Market

Try to get a job at circuit city or something..you will make more cash working different times during the week...or another place...just make the money you need than quit and buy the DVX.

Re: Grey Market

Well, see i work for this production company, and they film the weddings and give me the MINIdv tapes and then I just get paid $125 to edit them, and it usually takes around 8 hours to edit them.... should I ask for a raise, I NEED MY DVX?!

Re: Grey Market

Yeah dude, if you are doing a good job with the videos and the company is happy with your editing ask for a raise...You are only making around 16 bucks an hour...You should be making around 50 an hour...seriously..possibly a little more. I don't know if the production company would be interested in paying a teen this though.....ask them...

Re: Grey Market

You know what you should do..start marketing yourself in the area as a professional videographer and show people your editing reel...You and your friend (with the vx2000) split the cash for doing weddings (charge around 800 and you each get 400) He films you edit...You may get well known locally for inexpensive professional weddings videos...Just an idea...thinking outloud here...

Though, if you're working at Circuit City, you might not want to quit until you use the employee discount to pick up cables, etc. . .

Re: Grey Market

I think you might have to take into consideration, that you will not have a garuntee on the quality of your product, if you buy it on the grey market...

Re: Grey Market

Jubal - Good point, you can get some amazing discounts over there. I got a job there for a couple months just so I could buy a Plasma and tons of other electronics at a cheap price. Dude I got 2.5 grand off my plasma..its crazy how much they mark firewire cables up too...wow..damn retail!

Re: Grey Market

The production company you work for is making out like a bandit. I dont understand why they are paying you $125 for 8 hours of work. Is it on the side and you work regular hours with them or is that a freelance deal where you edit each wedding for $125? If they only film weddings I bet they are making anywhere from $1500-$3500 for each video and you are doing the hard part of the work for a measly $125. I think someone is laughing their way to the bank. How old are you may I ask? Where are you located? If you are near a beach, heres a way to make a ton of cash quick. Your beach might not allow this but I used to make $500 a day when i was younger. Go to cosco and buy cases of coke, beer and iced tea(snapple). They are about 25-45 cents a container at the bulk rate so what you do is sell them on the beach at $3 a pop for soda and iced tea, $5 for beer. Just carry a cooler on wheels and drag it through the sand saying iced cold soda, iced cold beer. People pay for conveinence. At least in NYC. We used to have a van parked near by so we could replenish the cooler and keep them cold. Now they have those coolers with wheels that are made for the beach so it will be easier than when i did it. Im telling you, you can make ALOT of money, its just hot to walk a beach all day.
