Grey card, cinegamma and IRE?

I KNOW theoretically a middle grey should give 50 IRE. However, with 0 IRE and cinegamma, I am not sure that should still be the case. Unfortunately, when my sound equipment was stolen, with it went DVRack charts, so I don't have a grey scale to shoot with DVRack hooked up.

Does anyone have any idea what should the IRE marker read when shooting a grey card? I am guessing about 45IRE should be fine?

Oooo, I have been wondering about similar things!

IS middle grey 50% IRE? That would be cool to confirm, as I have been metering off my hand (for middle grey).

And the DVX spotmeter? What of it? Middle grey equates to about 75% on the exposure readout, no?

Thanks for the post!

While I have no answers on the particulars of grey scales and such, I can help out a little with regards to replacing the pilfered SureShot cards. To order, call 916-985-8000 ext. 8062. (Replacements are available only for registered DV owners.)

That's so cool! I thought I remembered such a thing but wasn't sure! Calling now!

There is your problem. Your assumption is incorrect.

The gamma crossover on a DVX is not at 50% so it is not correct that middle black should be at 50%. also the term 18% grey card is a myth
