Greenwriter.org ???

So they are online now.

What do you all think of greenwriter as a concept? Makes me a bit leary, the idea of feature length screenplays existing in electronic format for easy download-- potentially easier for someone to download and edit and make into a movie without my permission (as in some prodco in China or Khazakistan, etc). I am dubious it would lessen paper printouts; if a prodco is interested, wouldn't they end up printing a copy anyhow to look at? I could be wrong. Curious what you all think. Is greenwriter a good place to put feature screenplays? Would agents and prodcos actually look for scripts on greenwriter?

EDIT: Does this clause in Greenwriter's terms of service bother anybody? :
"9. By posting Content to the Site or uploading Content for posting by Greenwriter, including without limitation, your screenplay, logline, synopsis, contact information, as well as postings to any message boards, profiles, forums, contests and chat rooms, you automatically grant to Greenwriter and its affiliates an irrevocable, royalty-free, perpetual, fully paid non-exclusive right (including moral rights) and worldwide license to use, copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, communicate to the public, perform, display, and distribute such Content (in whole or in part) on the Site."

Avoid like the plague. Unless you're interested in your intellectual property being distributed free, to anyone who wants it.

Then you will have a WGA-registered/copyrighted script to which you are automatically granting to Greenwriter and its affiliates an irrevocable, royalty-free, perpetual, fully paid non-exclusive right (including moral rights) and worldwide license to use, copy, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, communicate to the public, perform, display, and distribute such Content (in whole or in part) on the Site.

Inktip.com has it down.
There's two halves to the community
- writers and their reps
- agents, producers, directors, prod companies looking for material

They avoid this fear about freely distributed stuff by vetting the second half of the community.
For membership as a producer/director you have to provide three industry references, with phone numbers, your real name / email address / phone number.

Every time someone reads a logline/snyopsis/ downloads a script, the writer is notified.

You can also just logline your scripts and not send the e-copy's until requested.

I find that hard to believe.

They call little old me once a week to see if I need help finding anything. They're kind of like an agency and they're very pro-active.

Why would they want to keep a high profile producer from reading and potentially optioning their writer's work. "No, no sir. You have funding and a proven track record. Please go away. Our writer's do not want to be paid for their work or see it produced."

That site has been mentioned here and on other forums before. They've been spamming a lot since they thought of the idea, before actually developing anything. It's basically Inktip, but poorly made and not yet developed. And, apparently, with ill advised legals.

I'm not doubting your word. But it's like saying "The bank refused his loan because he had too much collateral." Makes no sense. I was on the phone with Mike Kim from Inktip this afternoon and showed him this thread.

Now he's not omnitiant, I'm sure he doesn't know every rejection and admittance by memory, but he said he coudln't think of an instance like you're describing nor imagine a circumstance in which it would occur for the reasons stated in my previous post.

He did say they sometimes deny writers access to the producers side so the writers can't just browse ideas to steal them.

Anyway, it's weird thing to deny a producer who could pay the writers and get their work produced because he's too established, especially since they have major studios browsing their scripts. Go figure.

I love InkTip. And I love the weekly phone calls from them for feedback on the site and to discuss what we're looking for. Great site. Great people running it.
