Greenscreen with Redrock M2+HV20

I've already heard that HDV isn't an ideal green screen codec. But alas, I'm stuck with it for a shoot this week.

I will be compositing a green screen shot with other footage shot on location using the Canon HV20 and the Redrock M2.

Given that the Redrock M2 gives a shallow depth of field, will I be foolish to try to shoot the subject against a green screen with that set up as well? I'm wondering if using the M2 for the green screen shot will make pulling the key more difficult. At the same time, I want my subject shot against green screen to match the location footage shot with the M2+HV20, so I thought the lenses and setup should match (i.e., I should use the same M2+HV20 set up for both location and green screen footage).

Any advice greatly appreciated!

From what I've heard using a 35mm adapter will make it harder to pull a key due to the soft focus. If you are already going to be doing something drastic to it in post then you might not notice those soft edges somewhat Also if you used a long shutter and if theres also lots of movement and motion blur then the softness from the focus can sort of hide in there with the softness from the motion blur. But it will not give you clean hard edges when the subject is still, they may be soft too. You can make your DOF longer but that kind of defeats the purpose for using the 35mm adapter. If it is only some shots that need to be green screened then try shooting those elements seperately without the adapter and match the blur in post after keying. The HV20 isn't an ideal camera for shooting elements for post effects.

Thanks for the thoughts! I love Stu, but he tends to post more on DVXuser than on his own site. ;-) Thought I'd get quicker responses here. And I think you're probably right. The soft focus might complicate the key a bit. At least that was my suspicion too. Then again, I don't necessarily need the green screen subject to look 100% "real"...as long as it doesn't look 100% like a green screen shot. It can look surreal. Thanks again for the ideas.
 
Reshoot without the 35mm adapter, hv20 will pull a great key with accurate lighting. Probably not what you wanted to hear.
