Greenscreen and FCP's Waveform Monitor

Hey guys,

This may have been covered but cannot find a link anywhere. I started doing more green screening lately and to get a better overall balance on the screen I've been using the waveform monitor on FCP's log and capture. I've been keeping the top "line" at 60 IRE but it's very "thick". It goes from 60 to 35 IRE. How do I thin the bar?

Thanks,

Jon

Yep. The more even the lighting is, the thinner the bar will be. You have areas on your greenscreen that are brighter than other areas, and darker than other areas. When you flatten that out and eliminate all hotspots and dark areas, you'll see the line on the waveform gets thinner and thinner. The thinner that line, the better your greenscreen keying will be.

Is the waveform on my HPX 170 accurate enough for this.
Also, have a couple of green screen shoots coming up this month.
Last time I used fabric. Thinking about paper this time.
Those 5X7 flip open backgrounds (like the Digital Juice one) look convenient, but I wonder are they just too small.

Take a look at these green screens from EEFX

They are FANTASTIC. They are foam based and so easy to setup. Being foam there is obviously no steaming involved. And if the fabric has a wrinkle, which is rare, simply spray a mist of water on it, and it disappears.
