Green Screen

Hey everyone, i'm just getting ready to shoot my first music video, and i'm in need of a green screen. Any one from the philly area that might be able to help with my dilemma? I would have bought but my budget is really tight right now!! HELP.!!!

Buy some cheap linoleum, paint out the gray foam backing with the green paint and screw it to a wall using a 1x3x8' (or 10' or 12' depending on how big your goods are) piece of #2 pine - instant infinity cyc for about $100. Leaving as much headroom as is necessary, you can let the rest of the goods lie natrually on the floor - the more relaxed the resulting curve, the easier it will be to light.

Linoleum is a lot more rugged than the expensive green paper and cloth products commercially available, and can be rolled back up then re-painted for another go down the road. I've keyed off huge "lightweight" poly-nylon screens (20' x 300' on one very, very unfortunate show) and still like the old linoleum trick best!

I found some greeeen board at the local arts supply for 5$ a sheet (60 x 90"?), bought a few, and put them together. An evenly lit screen made for no creases. The backs of the boards happened to be white, so we used them over again as bounce board.

Hi, all this specific green tint is a little hype.
This video - http://www.halfbakedmusic.com/conteudo/video/Half_Baked-single_again-max.mpg - was filmed with a Sony PD 150P, the band build a half pipe made of thin wood plates and painted it with regular cheap paint (with the most similar tone to the real green chroma tint).
The lights used were stage lights that were a little above the half pipe, there was a white sheet between the top of the half pipe and the lights.
All the band members were filmed one by one and then i composed them together in After Effects. I used DVMatte Pro and Keylight, it all worked well, for the equipment used it worked really well.

i really liked the video as well.

how did you do the part with the girl dancing in white silhouette?

matthew

Thank you. :)
The girl was filmed in front of the green screen, when in After Effects i cuted the chroma (having a black background) and then pushed up the brightness of the image to the level i wanted.
I guess it could be done with other method but at that time, one year ago i wasn't very familiar with AE.

And by the way, thanks Walter_Graff as well.

did you do anything else to get the movement to look like that? it looks much better than just 24p in front of a green screen.

I don't remember well but in the first scene there's a temporal blur and all the video has a stobe of 1 (video filter in Final Cut Pro), there's also some subtle old footage stile in some layers, mainly in background layers.
There's so many things in this video that even for me is difficult to remember all of them, but i think that what you saw was a temporal blur.

thank you.

i've been playing around with the twixtor plug in. it works in both premiere pro and after effects and it lets you control motion and blurs like what you had.

Just out of curiosity, you said you wouldn't use the method you used to use for a silhouetted dancer, today. What do you think is the best way to do that, these days?

For example, in Keylight (that comes bundled with AE), if i chose in the view menu screen matte or combined matte i get almost the same result using only one plugin (filter). But to combine it with other image i would have to do other keying to the black or use a add transfer mode.
Almost everything can be done in more than one way, i bet that there's some more technics to do the same, it all depends of the situation. And i also bet that this isn't the better way to do that. :)
