Green Screen Spill - Working Backwards

Just wondering, if I have green spill bouncing back from the greenscreen onto my subject (both are lit independently) I am trying to diagnose the cause and solutions.

Is it safe to say simply that I have too strong of a light hitting the greenscreen and the solution is to have less intense of a light, problem solved?

Alternately, it could be that the green screen material is too reflective but I'd prefer not to change the fabric.

Any other suggestions?

Your screen should be far enough behind your subject and/or getting less light than your subject. You can also reduce spill or contamination by using teasers to block the green from hitting your subject, but really, if you have enough distance and the level is correct, spill should be minimal.
