Green Legs...another keying project.

I get a kick out of attempting things with video that I probably don't actually have the capacity to do. Lately things involving green articles of clothing and chroma keying.

I recently made this -------> http://www.vimeo.com/5771833

And currently just finished taping my next video project. This time it involves these ----> http://www.welovecolors.com/shop/SolidColorKneeHighs.htm
only in green.

We filmed the project in a gym with plenty of lights. We used the ones that light the gym, two Lowell lights, a bunch of those clamp work lights with the domes, and a light with the metal grate on it used for construction and such. I filmed it with the panasonic dvx 100B.

Here comes the fun part. I want to key out the people's legs. We shot from the knee down, with their shoes on. The idea is to make it look like shoes walking around with no body. Then they do a dance and some other stuff happens. I shot the background without them in order to be able to use it under the footage after I key it. The first issue is when I key the legs out, the background is much lighter because it just changes when they are in front of it. I feel as though I may be able to handle that with some color adjustments. The worst problem is that I can't seem to get the edges completely keyed.

I am using FCP chroma key for now. Any suggestions on a better way? I know rotoscoping is an option, but I haven't the slightest clue how to do that(though i could always learn)

Thanks. Hopefully someone stays reading long enough to get to the actual problem. Any help is welcome!

THere are several great plugins for AE and the sooner you start heying in AE the better. You simply have infinatly more control. With all the shadows you have going on, it'll make your life much easier.
Watch any Lt. Dan behind the scenes stuff you can find from Forest Gump. It's exactly yhe same effect, minus the shoes. Then they tracked on ends of legs to make him legless.
