Yes; Rosemarys Baby is evil.

Halloween has always freaked me out. I used to have nightmares about Myers

Anyone remember 'It's Alive' ?

I remember that and Island of the Alive. You ever see that one????

The single reason that John Carpenter's The Thing isnt #1 is because not many people have seen it, everyone who voted, i suggest you go and watch the thing immediately and recast that vote, you will understand once you see it. Its by far john carpenter's and kurt russle's best works.

Not necessarily so. Its a great film, one of JC's best and of KR's best as well. But the other films on the list are also great horror films. I think its always a bit ridiculous and impossible to pick "the best" or "the scariest" because it's all subjective. I love The Thing for so many reasons but in terms of sheer horror and scare, I voted for the Exorcist because it was shocking, it was scary as hell, and reamains a creep out movie to this day. I watch the Thing whenever it's on and have the DVD (and laserdisk!) but I don't respond to it the same way as I do Exorcist. It just doesn't scare me, but I still love what JC did!

The Exorcist and The Shining are good choices. Does anyone understand why Stephen King hates The Shining? I'll never understand that. Then Stephen King, still upset over Kubrick's version, goes on to have The Shining mini-series made to show everyone how it should've been done originally, which is one of the worst things I've ever seen. King should've kissed Kubrick's feet.

Anyway, I think "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" is pretty darn creepy. And don't forget Hitchcock's "Psycho" if you look at it with fresh eyes. And "Carrie" was a creep-fest thanks to Sissy Spacek's performance.

I think I'd have to go with The Exorcist. I was in college when it originally came out and remember having it scare the **** out of me. I got a copy of it on DVD a while back and while it is still scary, it didn't give me the same feeling I had seeing it in the theater. While it might still be the scariest, I don't consider it the greatest horror movie ever made...if that makes sense.

Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte was creepy, too.

It has to be The Shining thanks to great reactions by the actors, creepy sound and music by Wendy Carlos, atmosphere of the hotel, and those damn twins!

"Come and play with us..." Aaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!

I've watched horror religiously since I can't remember, and this is the only one that truly gives me the creeps. Kubrick was amazing.

I actually went to the hotel used for the opening exterior shot. It's located on Mount Hood in Oregon, and it's very small compared to the one used for the interiors. When I walked inside it felt like the Flintstones where the tiny exterior of the house hides some sort of expansive "5D space", as quoted in some video games.

I was absolutely terrified by "the entity" I was scared shitless when i saw this film. The fact that a unknown evil force would rape and abuse your mom in your house was.... phew..... i didnt sleep for weeks!!!
