GREAT WAY TO PAY ACTORS

My racist post in the Christmas list thread reminded me of this courtesy...

We all know that we can't always pay actors...but if you have like 40-50 bucks you can spare, there's a GREAT gift you can give them if you live in a city...(or anywhere for that matter)...

It's freakin TOKENS or a Gas Card...it's just a nice little thing you can do to help people out. When I was a student with a negative budget, I would do that...18 bucks is a slap in the face as a day-wage, but a pack of Tokens is a freakin leg-up in society. (or i suppose in D.C. or Boston it'd be a farecard or a weekly pass or whatever).

So's a tank of gas...although I'm not quite versed in the ways of gas card purchasing.

I can't quite explain it. Their faces light right up when you whip out the tokens. Then they're like: "What do you need, Mr. Director? Would you care to redo that scene a few dozen more times?"

of course, food works too...but people are so picky about what they eat that you invitable wind up wasting time or food when you try to have one of those elaborate buffets...
When I lived in Philly, the TV show "Hack" with David Morse was the biggest show in town, and they'd film it all over downtown on location...and if you found the set, all you had to do was walk a few blocks over to find the smorgrasbord (sp?) tucked away in an alleyway like a magical Thanksgiving dinner...it was really strange to see. It was like "Asphalt, MOVEABLE FEAST, Asphalt, Dumpster"...lol

He wrote Lord of the Rings.

Oh wait, that's a Tolken.

haha
sorry...I guess I wasn't as clear as I should have been...it's a SUBWAY token for public transportation. I guess most cities are going on a farecard system, but it's essentially the same thing...I know that in Philly, one token can cost nearly three bucks...and that's just for one way. Of course, the more you buy, the cheaper they are...so you can get a lot of them and then distribute them, not just for use during production, but for their own personal convenience. A weekly unlimited pass card is like 19 bucks, and for starving students, that's a big deal, that could mean the difference between seeing a movie on Friday night or not...Also, some people walk places to save money, but with free tokens or a farecard, that'll save them time too. Also, imagine someone WITH a car. That's just as good as free gas. If you have to dash downtown for something, you don't have to get in your car, sit in traffic, waste gas, and then pay for parking...you can just use the handy tokens that you wouldn't have had.
I think when I start heading up major productions with a local cast, I'm going to buy everyone MONTHLY passes (eighty dollar value). I guess you just have to be a public trans. rider to appreciate it. Getting a free farecard is like falling in love! I'm serious. You should see the way people look at you when you give them your "transpass" or a token. It's like "Oh, you SHOULDN'T have!" LOL.
