Just about as much as you.

Well damnit. What are films you do like.

Odd since you put Space Odyssey on yours which, by concensus, usually ranks above the ones he listed

That's the thing; listing one or two films is usually agreeable but when you list 20 films many do hold in high regard it comes across as a punchline.

American Beauty
Gladiator
The Shining
The Empire Strikes Back
Jurassic Park
Vertigo and North By Northwest
Amadeus
The Matrix
Signs
The Graduate
Schindler's List
Reservoir Dogs
Kill Bill 2
Return of the King
Fargo
Garden State
Lost in Translation
Touch of Evil
28 Days Later

Come on. A few ? Sure. All of these ?

The Shining

Jurassic Park - this one is more in hindsight - looked great because of the CGI which was a big deal in 1992, but now, it's just an above average action flick

Schindler's List - was good, but did seem too preachy/pretentious. Frankly I never felt too much empathy with the protagonist - he came off like he was saving them as an ego boost moreso than morality.

Reservoir Dogs - for a lower budget semi-indie flick it's ok and I can see how people like it, but some of the cutting was poor IMO. Was more style over substance IMO.

Return of the King - not a big fan of the trilogy, but this one especially was the weakest and needed more refining. All joking aside, I did literally think some of those hobbits were about to kiss .

Fargo - it is good, but really do not understand all the hype it got and almost has this label as a classic film, despite being only 10 years old. Frankly I do not even think this is the Coen's best film and arguably not even their second best. It's their first film with mainstream success so I think that's a factor was why it's billed as their best. Frankly I think Big Lebowski and Barton Fink are better.

Aren't you the same dude said Jack got tired and fell asleep or something in The Shining ?

Psynema. Did you even see Schindler's List ? He never came off as an ego boost saving them. The entire film is spent with him being concerned about his bottom line. Ego ?

Dude

I can't even talk cinema with this guy. Did you even watch these movies?

He ran out of breath then froze to death. Is that inaccurate? Bit of a letdown for me - sorry if it ruined your day.

As for Schindler's list - it's all based on opinion, this is America after all. If you need a specific example, one line that stands out is "What are you doing working - it's Saturday, you should be observing the Sabbath". That line in particular, the way delivered came off as rather patronizing to me and I just lost a little watching other stuff like that here and there. If it did not to you fine. If you want to call me an idiot fine as well.

Frankly you're rather snippy for a board moderator - thought they usually came in the moderating mold. LOL :love4:

Well the thread asked for a list. Others have similar lists - and when you see ten people's lists it just reminds you of that many more films and snowballs.

Keep in mind a lot of the ones listed I said I liked and hell I own half of them. I'm just saying some are 7s and 8s and not 10s. Some people like to have the masses tell them what their tastes should be, others do not. I doubt most of the films I listed will be remembered that well 30 years from now.

And the films I listed mostly have multiple votes in this one thread alone - I can't be that crazy then LOL.

Well, I don't think I would say 7s or 8s suck. You'd probably have to get down to the 5s before I'd agree that they suck.

True, but I did make the point of saying I didn't think they sucked - maybe just belongs in a separate thread with a slightly different context.

Maybe letdown is a better word.

<shields up> I thought Crash was completely gimmicky and unbelievable. It reminded me of a preachy after-school special with pure hack writing. Man, the dialogue made me wince when I wasn't rolling my eyes. You know what's more believable than the characters in Crash? G*damn hobbits! That's what. :) <shields down>

thank you. I agree. Crash is a 2 hour (or however long it was) crappy tv show...

City of God is my biggest pet peeve... can't believe it is ranked 18 on IMDB.

You think I'm snippy ? LOL

... and dont worry about me being a moderator; I'm a man of the people.

the bad guy just gets tired and let's everyone escape???

This was your original summary of The Shining. No doubt a detailed analysis of how it went down.

Punchdrunk Love anyone?

Punchdrunk Love anyone?

I just read through the whole thread and I'm not gonna go thru everyone's list, but i dont' recall anyone mentioning this 2 hour snore-athon.

I liked boogie nights and haven't made it thru Magnolia, but this one I remeber being all hyped up and it was BOring. I'll take Sandler in "Billy Madison" anyday.

Other big ones on the list that I remember - I couldn't get too into Capote either... I definitely enjoyed Hoffman's acting, but the film felt really slow.

I'm not saying I would rate them that high. I was responding to the comment that he considered some of the movies on his list 7s and 8s. If I rate a movie 7 or 8, I certainly don't feel it sucks.

Anyone dislike any Kurosawa movies?

most ppl here would have no idea what you are talking about...

personally I find Hidden Fortress overrated, since it is oftened considered as one of his best along side with Seven Samurai.. but that's just me, and that's the only one. I know when I randomly pick up a Kurosawa I will always enjoy it.
