Great casting news for Django Unchained...

While i'll certainly take Kurt Russell over Kevin Costner any day, I would have liked to have seen what Tarantino could pull out of Costner. Would have been interesting.

Costner's screen presence/magic (and the "Costner Brand" itself) has not aged well.

I think it just vanished. If you look at the energy, charisma and dynamism he had in his early work like Fandango and Silverado, it pretty much disappeared by Wyatt Earp. Now he seems grumpy and bored in most of his movies. I'll give it up to Tom Cruise. I'm not the hugest fan but he's kept up his particular brand of star 'magic' rather well. He never looks like he phones it in.

I can. Tin Cup.

That was last century, which kind of proves my point...Another actor I admire for not losing his spark is Al Pacino. Even though at times he's almost a parody of himself, he always seems to be alive in his performances. Can't say the same for DeNiro.

Pacino jumped the shark for me after Scent of a Woman. He's been playing the same role ever since.

Yeah, but I never get the sense that he phones it in. You can tell he still loves acting. I'm rarely bored watching Pacino. De Niro can be dull when he's not inspired.

With De Niro I point to the Meet the's.
Not because they're comedies, because Analyze This was still "De Niro".

However, De Niro will somehow always surprise you juuuust when you've discounted him...

But, I agree he has AADD if uninspired.
