I found a simply amazing site for beginner lighting information for dv cameras. This is an amazing resource for free: http://www.cenozoic.com/misc/lighting/lightinghome.htm
It goes through all the types of lights, their practical advantages and disadvantages, their definitions, their approximate cost, a slew of different set ups for different effects, and even gives examples of real world lighting kits and their cost.
