Hey guys,

I am looking into purchasing a graphic tablet. I would like to get some feed back on what brand and what type to get. All suggestions are welcomed!

Wacom tablets are pretty much the best. You can use multiple pens and assign a different function to each, ie: Pen One - Brush, Pen Two - Clone Stamp, Pen Three -Lasso.

They come in different sizes with increasing prices as you go.

That's the route I would go.

I believe the main difference is the new version has twice the resolution of the old one. I have extremely close control using this one. I actually don't even use a mouse.. it's all tablet, all the time.

Yeah a few systems at work are using the wide now. They're pretty cool. I'm running dual cinemas off the 9x12 though and it's fine

I bought (and returned) a 6x8 and I have a 15"lcd and a 15"crt, and it just wasnt enough for me. I'm going to get a new monitor and then decide what I need from there.

Although, I miss it for rotoscoping...saved so much time!

So I don't have to buy the widescreen tablet. That makes me very happy because I'm sure they cost more.

Thanks everyone for you inputs. Really appreciate it!:)

Actual Tablet PC's can be nice too. I like being able to write directly on my artwork. Also, being able to take my work on the go with me is nice too. Tablet PC's also support many features found on Wacom tablets like "pressure sensitivity", etc. If you are working with a Tablet, I would also reccomend that you take a look at Alias Sketchbook Pro. It doesn't have near the features of Photoshop, but it is very cheap, and I feel more natural of a program for a traditional artist.

I love my Wacom Intuos3 9x12, I can't use a mouse in Photoshop anymore. I have a widescreen monitor, and it's not a big deal.

What I like about the 9 x 12 is I can hold it like a sketchpad, lean way back in my chair and uhh .. uhhh .. uhhhhhh .. BOOM!

Well perhaps, not that far back!

I've got the Intuos3 6 x 8 and I think it's a pretty reasonable size. I have a two moinitor setup with a Dell 24" and a Viewsonic 17" and I don't feel the need to have a wide tablet. I generally only using the tablet with a single application on the Dell, so the wide tablet would only take up too much space. As it is, the 6 x 8 tablet is pretty big with a wide border, so you need some serious desk space for the big tablets. I used a 4 x 5 tablet for years and loved it--I actually prefer the smaller sizes.

I'm surprised no one mentioned that Wacom has released the coolest solution yet, the Cintiq. With the Cintiq, you get the accuracy and manueverability of the trusted Wacom tablets, AND the ability to draw directly on your work, so you can be even more accurate. The Cintiq comes in 15, 17, and the new 21 inch versions, and I think the price starts at $2999. Better start saving.
