Grainy midtones

Does anyone know when shooting a scene with a large latitude of dark and light areas. Sometimes the midtone and dark areas become grainy. This is even if there is proper exposure and enough light. Does it have anything to do with shooting wide open. Let me know. Thanks.

Re: Grainy midtones

Try avoiding the cine gammas and use the high in conjunction with the Cine matrix instead. It seems to yield less grain.

You could also try the cine-like gamma (the regular one) and set the matrix to norm...

Try both and see if it makes a difference.
