Grain @ Dim light?

There it is. This was shot with ISO 200 and custom white balance on my D50.

Im just starting out with photography and ive come across a problem when im shooting where little light is available.
I dont know if you can see it, but the picture looks grainy and has some redish pixels. Ive been trying different settings but cant get rid of that inferior quality look.

Am i simply doing something wrong? Or are there any ideas how to shoot these types of images so they look sharper/less grainy?

Low light and/or underexposure cause noise (not enough photons hit each sensor pixel, the result is more random noise than true representation of subject). Some cameras are better in this respect than others, full sensor cameras the best (and only C**** makes them).

There are some noise removal programs and plug-ins, but I do not have them, as I use full frame C****, where there is no problems below 1200 ISO.

Generally it is always safer to expose to the right, bright side of the histogram and make picture darker in PS than the other way around.

Ah that makes sense. I shot this with camera compensation to make the image darker. Will disable that and try with longer exposure times. And then darken it a bit with PS as you say. Although i prefer not to use PS at all for my images.

Digital camera is an unnatural way of making images anyway, so for getting the maximum quality all methods are allowed, even using photoshop to make the image BETTER (more true). What the camera spits out is not the Truth... Truth needs some help sometimes.
