Graduation Video Questions

Hey guys,

I have an idea as far as how much people charge for weddings & such, but how much should I charge for a graduation video? It'll be a 1 camera shoot, basic edits, and I'll put all the raw footage on dvd's for them too.
I'll get all the speeches & video of people saying "congrats" and "omg I'll miss you" type stuff.Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike

A 4 camera grad video shoot with direct audio from the sound board ran 25 dollars per DVD. As a reference point. That was one rate I know of.

Thanks, Mattykins,
I teach Video Production at a high school in NJ, and as I'm the only video guy in the district, I'll be doing a 3-4 cam shoot of our graduation with audio from the sound booth & selling the DVD's for $10 (unless you think I can pull off $20?). There won't be any fancy graphics or anything, just simple cuts and 'hopefully' good shots. It's all student run and the money all goes to my TV program.

The video I'm talking about an actual graduation party, probably a 5 hour party to shoot then edit afterwards.
There probably won't be too many speeches (like a wedding) or choreographed dances/roses (like a cottilion). Just the basic party, few speeches, and "shout outs" at the end.

Last year I paid $30 for a DVD of my daughter's dance recital. Great menus and graphics.

Crappy one camera shoot.

If my wife hadn't signed up for it upfront, I never would have bought it after I saw him filming. But we (and several others) complained to the dance studio, so they got a new guy this year.

Anyone that will pay $10 for this will pay $15, and most would pay $20. If you think it's worth your time and it's a lower economic area, go for the $15. If it's middle class or above, then $20.

Maybe this thread should be in Business/Post-production? It's not really documentary/journalism related. Maybe there should be another category for commercial shooting?
