Grad Color Filter with Object in Horizon

I'll be shooting a bridge against a cloudless sky for a locked down timelapse shot beginning at about 4pm to sundown, shooting into the sun. I'd like to use a graduated blue filter to try and turn the sky blue and still be able to open the aperature enough to make out the detail on the bridge. I've done the no-filter scout and shooting into the sunset I get either detail on the bridge and white hot sky or sillhouette bridge and blue sky... obviously not both.

Is a blue filter going to cause problems with the structure of the bridge jutting into the sky? How about with faces of folks in the shot (and yes they will be well into the blue area, we're shooting through a super fish eye - although we will bounce light on them in order to try and overcome the sillhouette issue).

Any suggestions for a shot like this?

My other issue is shooting a fisheye and not getting vignetting on a 16x9 mattebox (largest filter is 4x5.65). Will I need a circular grad to get around this?

Oh, and it's via the HVX200.
Thanks.
