grab from DVD?

Anyone have any experience on how to grab footage from a DVD? I have to get a photo montage from a DVD and import it into FCP for a wedding.

I'd like to know also.

To do this I've been outputting to my camera, recording to tape and then rediging the footage.

Annoying and long.

the capture widget on a mac with tiger is the fastest and easiest way.

you could also copy the display from the mac and crop later.

sorry, i thought you wanted to capture an image (frame) from a dvd. hmm... photoshop elements use to have a fuction for this, but not sure if it worked for dvd's, but did for quicktime videos.

I use handbrake all the time and it will do exactly what you want

I use Cinematize. Cheaper and does the same thing and just as good. Can't live without it. I like it much better than DVDxDV and Handbrake.

MPEG4 is not a format you can edit in FCP. So you'd have to convert it once again into your NTSC-DV format. The more compressions/decompressions, the more you lose visual quality.
