GPU acceleration with 7970 in Vegas 12?

Does anyone have any experience or knows how well the 7970 does when it comes to timeline previewing in Vegas Pro 12? According to AnandTech, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU13/588, the 7970 beats everything when it comes to rendering, but I'm more concerned about getting smoother previews. At the moment, I'm using a GTX 580 and a 4470k, and I'm getting jerky playback issues editing GoPro footage at 60 fps. I'm editing off a non-OS drive and even set the preview on draft with no filters applied, but it's still choppy. This only happens when going from one cut to another. I edit a lot of videos with quick cuts, so I'm hoping a GPU like the 7970 would fix this.

I've also read a lot of posts that say that the HD 7000, GTX 600, or 700 series cards are not fully supported in Vegas 12. On the other hand, the benchmarks on AnandTech clearly show that the newer cards are much faster, so I'm a bit confused about whether or not I should upgrade to a 7970. I hope someone here can confirm the card's compatibility in terms of GPU acceleration.

How much RAM does your editing workstation have ?

Are you running your OS and editing apps from an SSD drive ?

...A healthy amount of RAM ( 16GB+ ) and running your OS from an SSD drive can make a huge difference in overall system performance. ( especially the SSD drive )

I have 16 GB of ram and my OS is running off a SSD drive.

I've read some posts of people saying they could edit 60 fps footage smoothly with effects with some of the newer graphics cards, but then there are a lot of people who say that Vegas 12 doesn't fully support them. According to the benchmarks, I'm inclined to think that they are now. I just want to be sure that the 7970 or something is capable of editing GoPro footage at 60 fps smoothly.

I think I should mention that I also edit 60D footage and have no problems. Even at 60 fps, there isn't any noticeable choppiness. It seems the H.264 compression of the GoPros are giving me a hard time.

I've had much better luck with Adobe Premiere CS6 when it comes to graphics-card acceleration, but I prefer to work in Vegas. ( I use Premiere when the client wants Premiere project files )
