Got my Pelican!

Re: Got my Pelican!

Thats sharp. Congrats!

But dont ever mention Gl2 and DVX in the same sentence or your grounded. Oh crap; I just did. Ill go to my room now.

Re: Got my Pelican!

I love the big pelicans. Great job on the layout of your foam. I'm luggin around the 1650 and love it.

Re: Got my Pelican!

Kai, do you think I gave enough thickness of foam around my parts? specifically between outer components and case wall?

Re: Got my Pelican!

Wow, how much does the case weigh by itself?

Kind of reminds me of the picture of a guy's garage with a Pinto parked right next to a shiny new Porsche ;)

Re: Got my Pelican!

Oh yeah. You're good for sure. The cams (at least the important one hehe) are well protected near the center.

Re: Got my Pelican!

Got the 1610 too. Love it. Like the included rollers too.

Re: Got my Pelican!

I have a 1610 as well, mainly for the rollers(!) It's *massive*, way bigger than just a camera-only case would be. It fits every accessory I have, and there's still room for more.

Re: Got my Pelican!

That 1610 looks like a lot of nice storage real estate. Kewlness.

I have a smaller version, the Pelican 1510, on order. Has anyone got one yet? I'm curious. The 1510 also has rollers but is small enough to fit in an airline overhead compartment.

Re: Got my Pelican!

I've got the Pelican 1550, able to fit the DVX with Mattebox nicely. will post picture ( Errr...how to I post picture )

Re: Got my Pelican!

I keep my DVX in a Pelican 1550. I opted to stay away from using pick & pluck foam and use the dividers instead. If you use the pluck foam you will begin to notice that it starts to flake off in tiny particles. Do you really want to risk "contaminating" the inside of your camera with this foam "dust"? MiniDv is delicate enough without having to worry about tiny foam particles migrating into your tape path or lens.

If you really insist on using foam, you can make a custom fitted "hard skin" foam for your case by buying some heavy guage plastic sheeting and a couple of cans of expanding foam sealer at Home Depot.

1st line the bottom of your case with a layer of the heavy guage plastic sheeting. Cut an even larger piece to be ready too. Fill the bottom of the lined case with about half the height that you would like the foam to be. It expands 2x as it cures. Let it rise slightly, then put the top sheet of plastic sheeting over the wet foam. Immediately place the item (camera) on top of the top sheet being very careful not to get any "wet" foam on your camera. (or wrap your camera in tightly saran wrap to protect it form this VERY sticky liquid foam) In about 2-3 hrs the foam cures completely and you have an exactly fitted custom mold. The foam piece can be removed from the Pelcian easily because of the bottom liner sheet. If you "overfilled" the foam a sharp knife will cut it or use a electric kitchen knife, like the ones you carve a turkey with. (tip courtesy: Mark Suszko)

Re: Got my Pelican!

I use a Pellican 1520.

It seems *slightly* cramped with my DVX100a. (I originally bought the case for my Sony VX2000, which I sold last month to by my DVX.)

SoBeTV, I have not noticed any foam dust, and I've had the case for two years.

I have notice only a very slight flake. Very minimal. What do I do? I wrap my DVX in a cloth, then place in foam. Works fine for me.
