Got my 702!

I just got my 702 today! The battery is still charging and I'm reading through the instruction manual, but just looking at this thing, I'm so glad I went with this over the Tascam. It seems ery solidly built and now I can FINALLY test my Oktava and get to work with laying down the tracks for my animatic. No doubt there's been impressions of this posted before, but once I've had some time with it I'll post my own here too.

Okay, small problem. I set it all up but I'm not getting hardly any sound out of the Okatava. The phantom powering is on so I don't know what the deal is. When I played back my test audio files they were so quiet they could barely be heard even with the volume all the way up. Any ideas?

Well I solved the problem, but I don't understand the technical stuff behind it. I was using a 3' XLR cable and when I swapped it out for a 20' everything worked perfectly fine. Why is that exactly?

By the way, this is an awesome recorder! I got a few tracks of my dog breathing like Darth Vader. Of course I'll be doing more than that just as soon as the batteries is fully charged and I can wander around with it.

Well done Gorilla King i hope you have lots of fun:)

Keep us beginners well informed of your problems all along the way. Maybe start a new thread and call it Gorillas mistakes and problems, with hopefully answers to these problems from the pros:)

That way it avoids wasting many of these guys time going through numerous posts. People like myself would love to know as many of the problems (like the cables) so we can avoid making the same mistake. We can also follow your path which i am sure is going to be pretty insightful for many of us!!

You have been given much good advice from many of the pros and really good audio guys, some of us will want to see how it all pans out in the next 12 months or so.:badputer:

Good idea Mike! I'll do that as soon as I get back home on Monday. I'm going to aspen today and my brother and I are going to lay down a vocal track for the animatic and then I'll probably be recording some sound effects too (albeit not in stereo because I don't have two mics yet.
