Got my 100b Today

Okay, well I got my 100b today.

Now, I need to know what I NEED to buy in order to keep the camera clean, and in perfect condition. As far as hardware such as lights,audio,tripids, etc all go I know about it. But, what I wanna know is what I need now to take good care of my Dvx.

Thanks.

Congratulations!

I got mine last week, with the following;

1) UV filter - protect that lens! (but you already knew that) ;)

2) Rain/dust slicker- I do a lot of outdoor shooting. (you may not require this, or make your own)

3) LCD screen protectors- OK, I admit that this may be over-the-top and unnecessary. On the one hand, I already had a bunch lying around. On the other hand, my PC LCD has never had any protection and it's pristine. Whatever you do don't put one of these on the eyepiece glass, 'cuz you won't be able to see a clear picture (I admit I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to my gear, and I tried it).

4) Lens cleaner, tissue, and a lens blower/brush. All from my local camera store. Ideally this will only be used on the filter, ideally.

5) And last, but not least; a bright orange Pelican 1550 case for my baby to rest in. Waterproof, dustproof, drunken-fall-proof, gotta love it. Think of it this way; If you were a vampire, would you rather sleep all day in a nice padded coffin, or a bodybag?

playstation psp screen protectors fit the lcd pretty much perfect and you can get em for like 6 bucks anywhere....

Thanks. Congrats =).

Are there any different between UV Filters? I've seen many of them, different kinds, anyone in particular that I should buy? Also, do you know where I can get my dust slicker?

I' gotta start practicing, can't wait to shoot a first short, thats when you know you've stepped up the first step. :)

That one fits great. I've had it for awhile but haven't been able to get it wet yet.:/ There are definitely differences in UV Filters. B+W is a good choice although a little more expensive (just got one meself). Better glass (multi-coated, optically flat, etc.)costs more. And if you want to leave it on all the time, don't get a slim-line one as Oregon said. They don't have threads in the front, so if you ever wanted to screw on any other filters, adapters, or a mattebox, you'd be out of luck. A polarizer is definitely a good thing to have. I'm actually getting rid of a Tiffen 72mm circular polarizer if you're looking for one. PM Me.

I've been waiting 5 weeks for my dvx100b to come in and they called me yesterday to say it finally came in, so i should have it today or monday, hopefully today :D

Also be sure to keep some fine grain sandpaper handy to get rid of those pesky specks that appear on your lens.

This is the one I got;

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=361587&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

It's the cheapest solution from a reputable company, (you could always use a trash bag) and I was looking for something w/out the extended sunshade/rainguard on the front. It's low profile and fits nicely in my gearbag. I wouldn't use it in a torrential downpour or a hurricane, but it keeps the birds from shartting all over it when I'm doing timelapse.:thumbsup:

Just so you're aware, the sunshade/rainguard on the front of the Petrol one is velcroed on and removable.

Eh, good luck with your ceph.

lol, I took mine out the first time I got it, shot about two minutes with it, and put it back in the box, I don't wanna touch it until I get a filter, a case, then I'll feel okay about handling it.

Speaking of rain covers, how do the Kata rain covers work? anyone use those before?

The first time I shot with the dvx, all the footage was blue LMAO, and I thought something was wrong with it, until I read the manual =).

ceph, you look like you had a run in with the Trailer Park Boys;)
They mistake you for a samsquamtch or something?:huh:

congrats Filmmakerr. I got mine last Monday. Why not try your first short with Hero-Fest. That's what I'm working on.

Yeah, I've been reading about that for awhile now, if I hopefully get vegas editor before may, I'll definatly join. Gluck

Thanks man! I ran over to the local camera store and picked up a hoya UV filter. So I got to play with it a little. Sweet friggin camera :D I definitely need to give the manual a good read, i'm about half way through barry's book right now :)

I dunno, I expected abit more to be on the DVD, the book is much more helpful, I guess I thought the DVD explained the camera, rather than talk about it. But its still helpful, and I'm happy to have.
