got a question for any creative commons buffs out there

so i've been using bits and pieces of 2d images to build a composition in after effects. the end product is a music video for a record label.

the images i'm using were found on flickr, using the advanced search, and toggling all the creative commons check boxes (indicating 'OK to use commercially' and 'permission to change/modify' the work).

supposedly, this search only grabs content marked by the "attribution generic" license - as in, whatever you do with it is OK, so long as you attribute the original author. THEN... i see that this license also has a few variations.

the one i am concerned about is attribution "sharealike" generic. which stipulates that any derivative work must have the same or comparable license (ie, CC attribution generic).

so my question is: what is the point of having a "commercial use OK" clause in attribution if you then have to 'sharealike'. why is there even a differentiation between the two? how can something be both commercial AND share alike?

either i am mistaken altogether, and this isnt an issue at all, or the flickr search filter could be a little more particular and eliminate the sharealikes for me.

anyone have to deal with stuff like this before?
