Gorilla Filmmaking Software

Has anybody heard of this software? It's at http://www.junglesoftware.com

My girlfriend won a copy yesterday. It does pre-production, scheduling for production, allows you to control every minute detail down to how many forks would be on a table for a shot, arranges storyboarding, has up-to-date rates for union and non-union positions for actors and crew, and a list of 1200 film festivals you can submit your finished work to.

We just saw the tutorial yesterday and plan to install it and import all of our projects, but I'd love to hear from other people who are using it. This program sounds amazing.

I've been using it for about 2 years now and I love it. I started with version 2, moved to 3 last year and just upgraded to version 4 yesterday. It took a little getting used to the changes, but now that I have, I like it much better than the previous versions. The guys at Jungle Software are very responsive to questions.

I used it on Threading the Needle and everyone was pleased with how it helped with the organization and paperwork.

I originally got it to help with the scheduling and budget on a feature: Hollywood Gothic. It would have been incredibly difficult if I hadn't had this software. I had to reschedule 15 times on a 19 day shoot (last minute changes... )

Version 3 was a really nice piece of software. Version 4 is even better. I love the fact that the Rate Books are available ($49 to turn them on doesn't seem like too bad a deal). I've scheduled 6 projects on the software and budgeted 3. This is probably the best piece of software for the Indie Producer. It runs about half the price of the Movie Magic (Now EP) Scheduling & Budgeting package.

They have fairly regular seminars around the country. When I went to my first one, here in L.A., James Keach was there with his UPM and 1st AD. They used the software on Walk the Line...very cool.

Once again, I can't say enough about their support. Fast, accurate and friendly.

If you are using Final Draft 7 or MM Screenwriter (using features that ship with them), you can break your script down into all it's components then import it into Gorilla. This saves a ton of time as it converts each scene into a breakdown sheet and includes all the elements, such as Characters, props, set dressing, vehicles and so much more. Gorilla also allows you to add thing manually, of course, because once you get going, you're invariably going to come up with more elements once you're in pre-production that weren't in your script. Just add them in Gorilla and you've got them right where you need them. You can go to the Jungle Software webside and download the manual (free) as well as a demo and see how the software works.

Yeah, the guy was showing us that part, too. I've got about 8 feature-length scripts in Final Draft, at least one of which I want to go into pre-production on this year, so this is going to be awesome for that.

We were going to buy the student version and then upgrade to the standard, since the student version allows you a 14 day shoot schedule and a 50k budget and standard has a 28 day shoot schedule + a 500k budget, but the pro has unlimited on both, so that's going to be awesome.

I also love that it allows you to introduce a score right off the bat, and you only have to enter people's names once - add a DP to one project, put his info in and if you work with him again, you can just click on his name for the next project and it automatically imports him.

What an amazing piece of software!

any differences between standard and pro other than budget and shoot day limitations? i won't be working over $625,000 until the end of next year and i don't think i'll ever do a 48+day shoot.

I think that's pretty much it, Zak. I have the pro and haven't seen the others so I'm not sure. But that's all it shows on their website.

That was all they mentioned at the tutorial, too. I'm not even sure how it's implemented.

There's a yahoo film budgeting group and they also highly recommend the program.

Is anyone else using this bad boy?

There might be a couple, maybe a couple using EP Budgeting & Scheduling, too. But I don't think most people are using any formal production software.

Noob just got the Gorilla and is short on bananas for the tutorial DVD. Does anyone have a used DVD lying around somewhere?
